Pics Vids Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Anniversary

RELIVE IT...

The City of Vancouver decided to throw a street party to celebrate the one year anniversary of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. And though the rain came down pouring, there was still entertainment all around. From ice skating, to street hockey and live music, the rainy weather soon began to disappear in the afternoon, with the relighting of the Olympic Cauldron.

There was no giant fence keeping the crowds at a distance, which was the best decision the city made, giving everyone an up close opportunity to enjoy it. (That thing gets warm up close!) It was great seeing all the people come out to enjoy the anniversary, and reminisce about the Olympics of 2010, which helped put Vancouver on the map, and helped push the city to mature.

ALBERT ART CUSTOM THUG VINYL TOY

Custom Unison Lab T.H.U.G.! vinyl toy!

I'm finally getting around to painting more toys, kicking off 2011 with my first THUG custom vinyl from Unison Lab studio. The THUG platform was available at a local comic shop here in Vancouver(Metropolis Comics & Toys, Burnaby), so I didn't hesitate to buy it. I was pretty surprised to see that the toy was on sale here, in CANADA. I believe the toy platform originates from Chile while Unison Lab has a base in Miami.(I will be picking up more in the near future.)

The hand-painted design, was a concept I submitted to Unison Lab last year. It was featured in their THUG launch party. I made a few changes to the design as you can see when comparing the original template to the painted version.

THUG is one of my new favorite platforms. The design is unique, with a large head, featuring strange bulges on the top and bottom. The (4inch?) size is quite easy to handle and paint on, compared to other toys out there that are either really small 2.5inch or quite big 8inch. I am really digging the mid-size THUG.

The character started out as a fire fighter concept, but then it started to evolve into a deep sea diver meets DHARMA Initiative from LOST. The end result is a bathroom cleaner, a Janitor of sorts.

Testing out Canon PowerShot S95

I've been really enjoying my Canon PowerShot S95. For such a compact point-and-shoot camera, the manual options are great for still photos. The video feature on the other hand is something of a bonus, specifically the Miniature Mode timelapse.

These vids (above and below) were recorded at 1280x720 Miniature.

I had my S95 handy in the city after snowboarding, so I decided to capture the snow at Main St. and Broadway, in Vancouver.

The manual options on the Canon PowerShot S95, are great for getting some excellent quality photos. Though there is also a Miniature Mode setting for Still photos, the pics below were taken in manual settings, (NOT IN MINIATURE MODE).
