Year In Review Albert Art x Director Showreel (HD)

2012 Recap
So, you may have noticed I do some film and video work from time to time when not doing comics or painting toys. This year I completed a two-year indie short film called '451' a short fan film based on the work of Ray Bradbury. I've also been experimenting with stop motion animation, and shooting promotional work for small local businesses. I've cut together a selection of my work in a new showreel and hope to be doing even more in the New Year.

Homeless Quatchi and Friends has been growing in popularity with each event I've attended. Currently at two issues of former-Olympic mascot misadventures, I plan on finishing the short series in 2013 in time for Fan Expo Vancouver (April) and Vancouver Comic Arts Festival (May). The response has been very positive, though some parents aren't interested in showing this comic to their kids despite the G rated content.

I've also been painting up a storm of custom vinyl toys, and videogame themed paintings which have proved popular with gamers and toy collectors. Glad fans are enjoying it all because I'm having fun making them. I do take commissions, and all toys up for sale.

I've also been using Google+ quite extensively and I've been happy with the engagement with all sorts of users. The mobile App is also quite good. Feel free to check out my stuff at +Albert Art  +The Homeless Quatchi Project +ALBERT ART CREATIVE

This year was pretty busy, so long to 2012, and hello to 2013.

VanCAF Comic Arts Festival May 26

VANCOUVER COMIC ARTS FESTIVAL

This weekend is VanCAF, the Vancouver Comic Arts Festival is taking place at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown May 26-27. Admission is free, and list of artists in attendance is very good! This is the first VanCAF, so there's lots of excitement around this event.

I'll be there releasing my Homeless Quatchi & Friends comicbook! I've been working hard to get this finished!

Oh, and as of this week, I've quietly launched HOMELESSQUATCHI.com. The hub for all things Homeless Quatchi.

Please come by and take a look at the show! VanCAF is doing a great job organizing the event!

Albert Art Fan Expo Vancouver 2012 Recap

FAN EXPO VANCOUVER 2012

The first ever Fan Expo in Vancouver, went off with a bang, that included a large turnout of convention goers, many of whom have probably never been to a convention of this size before.

Vancouver has had for many years small scale cons, for anime fans, and gatherings for comicbook people, but none like Fan Expo originally from Toronto. The Vancouver-spin-off proved popular, enough to bring back next year, at a much larger scale.

As an artist showcasing in the Artist Alley, I didn't know what to expect, but was surprised to see the event packed with people.

Beth Wagner and veteran illustrator/storyboard artist Craig Wilson were my artist alley neighbours for the weekend, which made my time there pretty entertaining.

I had a chance to introduce many con goers to my vinyl custom toys, and Homeless Quatchi made some new friends!

Check out the pics below, and on Google Plus and Facebook.

(I will be at Vancouver Comic Con, Heritage Hall Main st. May 13.)

SFU Summer Festival Recap 2011
The Summer Festival at SFU started out with winter-like weather conditions and remained so, for the entire day.

My mini-tour continues with The Summer Festival at Simon Fraser University.

The Summer Festival at SFU is a Japanese themed event, that celebrates anime/manga and videogame otaku culture. Featuring live music, games, and contests, with vendors selling various art, food, and related wares, the festival took place on Saturday July 16 at the university campus in Burnaby, on a cold, rainy, foggy, summer day.

The day started out bleak, with some morning showers. The commute up Burnaby mountain though while pretty light on traffic, was a bit unappealing, as the fog cast over the hill was pretty thick around noon. As someone who is unfamiliar with the school, trying to navigate in the fog, was especially frustrating. With no signs indicating where the Festival was located, or where the best parking would be, I ended up parking on the other side of campus and had haul my stuff to the main mall area.

The turnout was quite good, with lots of families, kids, and teens dressed in cosplay. I did find however that the crowds did not necessarily convert to as many sales, as the majority of people were students, who were more interested in FREE, rather than spending money. Also given the location far atop a hill in Burnaby, the regular foot traffic of curious people was non-existent. Unlike at the Vancouver Comic-Con where you have people coming in and out, because the event is easily accessible.

Letterman Skelanimals Qee peaked the interest of many passing by, but it was The Homeless Quatchi Project that stole the spotlight. A few wanted to take their pictures with Homeless Quatchi. My videogame themed postcard sized prints, sold quite well, even though the majority of people were not familiar with Slimes, or Bonk, mostly because they were too young to know about those videogames. Overall it was an okay experience, despite the bad weather.

Here are some pictures from the event.
