The Happening movie big disappointment

The Happening should have been advertised as a Comedy.

Before seeing "The Happening" a group of friends, and I decided to watch The Sixth Sense, in preparation for Shyamalan's much anticipated upcoming R-rated feature film. Though, in the end watching the Sixth Sense was a mistake, because it set us up into believing that "The Happening" would be Shyamalan's return to good movie-making form. Despite being aware of the early negative reviews of "The Happening", I went into the theater with somewhat good expectations. Yet, within the first few minutes of the movie, I knew that this was gonna be a stinker.

I couldn't help but laugh when the first scene of the movie, featured an Improv Everywhere-esque scenario. If you've ever seen Improv Everywhere, this scene is what it reminded me of, and it happens throughout the film, which made the movie if anything quite funny. Wow, a toxin that makes people freeze, and then kill themselves. Those improv actors!

I think it's about time for someone to start a Petition to end the film-making career of Shyamalan.

Rather then waste my breath on writing anymore about the movie. I think this review said it best.

Assassin's Creed, dull, but pretty. Dead Rising a bloody good time.

After beating GTA IV, which game can fill the void?

Because like other gamers out there, getting a PS3 solely for MGS4 is out of the question... for now at least.

So since finishing GTA IV, I've been looking for another sandbox free roaming action adventure game for my 360 to fill the void that GTA pretty much cratered into my life. I've had Assassin's Creed for a long time now, but I've never really been motivated to really finish it. I find the game extremely monotonous... but it looks good! Because of this lack of interest in the game, I decided to pick up a copy of Dead Rising, over at the EB in Metrotown Mall. Rather then go off on how I despise retailers, their service, attitudes, and lineups, I think I'll just stick to talking about Dead Rising. This game is great! Aside from the awkward shooting mechanics, lack of autosave, stupid ass AI (for none Zombie Characters), and constant loading, among other things, Dead Rising is as essential to a gamer's collection, as campy zombie films are to a horror fans movie collection.

No this isn't your average Resident Evil, or Silent Hill game, Dead Rising isn't as serious (or as self-conscious), taking inspiration from the works of filmmaker George Romero (Dawn of the Dead), it's a fun take on the zombie killing genre in a familiar western setting: a small town shopping mall. Though developed in Japan, the game feels for the most part very North American, and targeted to western gamers, as opposed to a Japanese made game set in America, that caters to a Japanese demographic, but comes off as a strange hybrid western/Asian feel, that's not very convincing to western players. If that makes any sense.

I'm sure both Assassin's Creed and Dead Rising, don't come anywhere near the excitement surrounding a Kojima production, but I really should play the games that I've purchased. It's too bad that Kojima never "jumped in" to the 360 with MGS4. If it (MGS4) ever does appear on the 360, I'll play it.

The Ting Tings Vancouver Plaza Club
The Ting Tings - More than an Apple iPod commerical

The coveted Apple ipod commercial never hurt anyone especially Musicians. It definitely put Feist on the map in the USA after having already been an established artist for many years in Canada and Europe. The '1,2,3,4' campaign worked out incredibly well, though you can't say the same for Yael Naim whose track 'New Soul' graced ads for the Mac Air, or for Orba Squara whose song 'Perfect Timing' played in iPhone ads. These artists weren't really rocketed into the spotlight of popular music... And then there were The Ting Tings, and the 'Shut Up and Let me Go' iPod commercial.

Described on their myspace page as Alternative Melodramatic British Pop music, The Ting Tings Jules de Martino and Katie White, rocked out at the Plaza Club last night here in Vancouver -- their first show in Canada -- and proved that they are more than the soundtrack to an iPod commercial. Their sound is fun, their songs are quite catchy, and their energetic performance resonated with the packed audience. Though the show which included an opening act by Anni Rossi was quite short -- The entire show was barely an hour and a half -- The Ting Tings left fans wanting more.
