Not sure what to do at The Game Developers Conference? Check out "8 For GDC '08"

Getting it together, to make the most of your time at GDC

The GameCareerGuide has been running some very useful features over the last few weeks for those heading on down to Frisco for this year's GDC. As if "The GDC Survival Guide" wasn't enough, Jill Duffy's article "8 For GDC '08", will help you tighten up your conference schedule to sort out what's really important. Because there's a lot to see and do, there's no way you could possibly get around to doing everything, unless of course you had clones. Which most of us don't. Choosing two or three major things on your schedule each day, and leaving the rest open for whatever comes up could help in the long run. This is especially important for conference goers with too much on their plates, or for those who have restrictions on their conferences passes. Limited passes may be limited in the sense that you don't have access to every corner of the convention, but that doesn't mean you can't make the most of what you already have access to.

With only 2 days away, it's best to be organized!

One of the problems I had last year, was actually finding time to eat. Running around from session to session, and booth to booth, I'd want to grab a snack, but I also didn't want to waste time. Stopping and having a meal becomes difficult. This includes staying hydrated. Water bottles are a must! In the end you'll soon realize that GDC is an exhausting, but rewarding week-long experience.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, it's actually not that bad!

I remember seeing the trailer to Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles a while back, around the time of Comic Con 2007. At the time, the very idea of the show made me SICK. How could anyone make an episodic series off Terminator, a franchise that did just fine on the big screen? T2 being the BEST, while T3 being, an unfortunate addition. The third film in the series wasn't exactly the greatest. In fact, it gave the audience the impression that the Terminator storyline was over, ending with Skynet destroying cities around the world, while John Connor and Co. remained in the safety of an abandoned military base. And we all know what happens after that. Yet, the story doesn't end with the last movie. Leave it to Hollywood to bring back a perfectly good franchise.

It's no surprise that The Sarah Connor Chronicles, takes place after Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and before T3, which leaves room for more robot fights, and character development in between. The show has been on for several weeks now, and I'm liking what I've seen so far.

TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES represents an exciting reinvention of the "Terminator" franchise, in which the strong and intrepid Sarah discovers that protecting her son and stopping the rise of the machines is more difficult than she had ever imagined.

Never judge a show before actually watching it. I need to remind myself to do that more often. The Sarah Connor Chronicles actually is quite exciting, and stays very close to the Terminator feel. The visual effects are quite impressive (for a show), and the new female Terminator protecting John Connor, is pretty cool too. Though she is quite skinny and far less intimidating, compared to Kristanna Loken in T3, Summer Glau (Firefly) can still pull off the Terminator attitude, and moves when required to. It's always a hilarious to see such a small girl shove much bigger Terminators through walls. She's a different kind of Terminator and I think what makes it work is the fight-scene choreography, which is very reminiscent of the Terminator films.

The show works, and fans of the Terminator franchise should be pleased. It's a pretty good show, that has potential and I wanna see more of it!

Now on another note, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has serious doubts about Knight Rider the Sequel. It features the Son of Michael Knight, and the NEW K.I.T.T. I'll try not to judge the show before actually seeing it.

Passing around those Kanye West Shades at a Daft Punk party

I'm sure by now you've seen these sun glasses; the ones that Kanye West has been sporting in magazines, music videos, and performances. Those white shades with slits that look like futuristic, funky window shutters. Sure you might look a little goofy with these walking down a street during the day, but at a party celebrating Daft Punk on a Saturday night, you'll fit in perfectly. Sorta...

I went to a Daft Punk appreciation party a week ago here in Vancouver, and I had a chance to try them on as party goers were passing them around. They may look cool (or ugly to some), but they are kind of hard to see through. Vision is slightly impaired, it's amazing that Kanye can jump around the stage without falling on his face.

Aside from the shades, the party was great. Though it wasn't a Daft Punk concert per se, getting all the fans together for a mix of Daft Punk tracks was awesome. These great photos were taken by lindsaysdiet, and 1/2 Alive.
